Lightheaded Illumination is a lighting company forged from the passion for craftsmanship and beautiful lines.

About Us

When I was a child, my Dad was stationed at the Naval base in Newport, Rhode Island and we lived in a house on the edge of Narragansett Bay. Just steps from our front door, a small harbor brimmed with the boats of local fishermen and summer visitors. The beauty of the wooden boats riding at anchor was imprinted in my mind. To this day, I am moved by the lines of beautiful watercraft.

After decades as a maker — cabinetmaker, carpenter, renovator, home builder, stone craftsman — I decided to fulfill my love for wooden boats. I studied a craft style of boat building called "skin-on-frame," and a light literally went on for me. The skin was translucent and you could see the skeleton of the boat's structure through its gossamer skin. The effect was the exact form of illumination my wife and I had long looked for, and never found, to enhance the contemplative nature of our family reading room.  Watching the light glow through the skin-on-frame boat was my true “ah-ha" moment.

Today, building these nautical art fixtures fills me with joy. Seeing my creations shine from the ceilings and walls of my clients gives me a glowing sense of satisfaction.
